Intelligent Conversation

As I replay conversations and moments in my head from my trip, one thing that really stands out to me is the depth to one of the conversations I had with the man I had dinner with.  He turned to me and asked me a question about what I thought about the perception that younger people don't want to work.  And we got into a discussion about different generations' experiences with the corporate world in the US and a bit about how our country compares to other countries.  It was a thought-provoking conversation and I really felt like he listened to what I had to contribute and he had interesting thoughts of his own.  And maybe even more importantly, he was thinking about the larger world in a way that lead to asking the question in the first place.

I want more of those types of conversations and so I need to continue cultivating people who lean into intelligence and deeper thought vs be intimidated by it.  One thing I'm finding in common with these type of people is they are usually readers (or consumers of audiobooks).  That was definitely true in this case as we talked about what kinds of books we liked to read.
